Annual Cattle Drive and Branding Weekend; May 16th - May 20th, 2013
Our season begins annually every May long weekend showcasing one of the few remaining cattle drives in Canada. Our Cattle Drive has become one of the premier events in the valley and offers guests the exclusive opportunity to be part of an authentic cowboy (and cowgirl) tradition. It begins the day after guests arrive, when we let them get good and dirty rounding up cattle and calves for branding. The following day we drive the cattle out onto the rangeland, stopping for a chef-prepared lunch, where guests can opt to head home or keep on 'driving'. It's a true experience of ranch life. Dad's Gone Country; June 14th - 17th, 2013
Is your dad into those old western flicks like 'Tombstone' and 'The good, the bad, and the ugly'? If so, for Fathers Day, why not treat your dad or husband to a wild west adventure of his own. At Elkin Creek he'll get to experience all of those things he's dreamed of doing since he was a young buck. You and Dad or the whole family can enjoy spending time at the lake fly or spin-cast fishing, shooting bows and arrows or kayaking down Elkin Creek. For the real deal, he can saddle up and try his hand at swinging lasso's, roping cattle, or trotting off for a scenic horseback ride in the valley. In celebration of his special day, Dad can enjoy an ice cold beer on us!
Spring Cowgirl Bootcamp; June 20th - 23rd, 2013
A special time for aspiring cowgirls and ladies looking for a fun and exciting all-girl adventure. Our annual Cowgirl Bootcamp offers ladies a chance to learn proper horsemanship skills. You will be practicing proper roping techniques, taking part in roping relays, and learning methods for cutting cattle (separating the cow from her calf) from a true cowboy. Of course, you'll have your fair share of riding as well. However, it's not all about getting down and dirty on the ranch; we know what you ladies look for in a holiday and we are prepared to offer it. Our chef will be catering to your foodie desires, with scrumptious appetizers, filling yet notably healthy meals, and desserts that tickle your taste buds. In the evenings you and your girlfriends can pop open a bottle of champagne on us, share a few laughs, and cozy up next to our river-rock fireplace - sauna and hot tub are also excellent options.
The popular Cowgirl Bootcamp is open to women of all 'cowgirl' levels and is a great time to learn proper horse'wo'manship skills and make new friends. Go ahead ladies; spend some time on yourself without the worry of kids or hubbies. You deserve it!
Canada Day Cookout; June 28th - July 1st, 2013
We would be crazy not to celebrate this special occasion without a true wild west style feast. Big juicy steaks, succulent salmon filets, roasted vegetables and spuds seasoned to perfection, all grilled over an open fire. Are you drooling yet? Add in the sensation of fresh summer air and a view of the coastal mountain range and BC's unspoiled wilderness, and what do you have? That's right....perfection.
Nemaiah Valley Rodeo: August 2nd - August 5th, 2013
This is by far the number one event in the valley, and a mainstay on the BC Rodeo circuit. This is the real deal, with real cowboys and real bull riders. It's got everything from barrel racing, to bronk riding and is home to the world-famous downhill Mountain Race. Guests will be escorted a short 15 minutes to the Nemaiah Valley rodeo grounds each day where they will witness locals in action. Elkin Creek Guest Ranch provides free admission for guests.
Fall Cowgirl Bootcamp: September 13th – 15th, 2013
Round two at the ranch. It`s another chance for aspiring cowgirls to show off their stuff. See our Summer Cowgirl Bootcamp for details. However, there are some difference; the fall colours are in full bloom, the temperatures are cooler and it's a bit quieter around the ranch. We'll let you decide.
Couples Bootcamp and Fall Getaway Weekend: September 20th– 22nd, 2013
Team mates by day and soul mates by night. Our Couples Bootcamp and fall weekend offers a traditional romantic getaway with a western twist. Besides daily events of break-away roping relays, cattle cutting, and other team building activities, Elkin Creek Guest Ranch will provide some time for romance. Enjoy a day ride with a picnic basket lunch, a scenic route, unspoiled wilderness, a bottle of sparkling wine, delectable chocolates, and a lakeside hot tub to wind down the evening. Also look forward to highly amusing game nights and lounging with new friends. A three night minimum is required.
Thanksgiving Weekend: October 11th – 14th, 2013
A Canadian tradition, a time to reflect on the past season and a time bring the cattle home for the winter months. Join us for a weekend of the year's last rides, enjoy a big turkey feast and a warm fire in the lounge. This is a peaceful time, perfect for those looking to take in the true beauty of fall`s vibrant colors, breath clean and crisp mountain air and unwind after the busy summer months.
