We are now hiring staff for our 2008 season at the Elkin Creek Guest Ranch (May to October) and invite qualified applicants to email/fax your resume for the following live-in positions.
Ocean Explorer Sportfishing Guides - saltwater (x3) Our saltwater fishing guides are responsible for ensuring that all our guests have a productive, entertaining and safe experience with Ocean Explorer Sportfishing. The Guide must be proficient with boat handling, fishing and fish processing skills, plus be an excellent communicator, and knowledgeable about the BC coastline. The Guide has the ultimate responsibility in guest service, providing personalized, one-on-one service to the guest in a close environment. The Guide must hold a current Canadian Coast Guard Pleasure Craft Operator Card.
Ranch Hand (x1) Duties include all aspects of ranch maintenance. Must have basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and be able to accept directions from management. Ability to be flexible and act immediately as circumstances arise. Other duties include hot tub and grounds maintenance, cutting firewood, building fences, assist with haying. All other duties as assigned. Wrangling skills an asset.
Head Wrangler (x1) POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED FOR 2008 The Head Wrangler position is a management role. He/she must have strong leadership qualities, a deep knowledge of horses and their day to day care and the ability to act quickly in emergency situations. He/she must have highly developed social skills and the intuitive ability to match guests with appropriate horses. Must be able to interact successfully with all personality types, ages and genders and work with Head Office goals. Care and maintenance of the horses and tack Managing the wranglers employed at Elkin Creek Assuring that guest equine needs are anticipated and met Farrier knowledge/experience an asset Strong horsemanship to train horses
Lodge Manager (x1) POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED FOR 2008 The primary function of the office manager is to deal with our guests. This person is the face of the ranch as he/she will most often be the voice on the phone and the presence in the office taking care of all guest needs. He/she must be comfortable acting as ranch host and able to warmly interact with individuals from all over, all ages, at the ranch and on the phone. The office manager must have the social poise necessary to be a proactive host or hostess assessing needs and meeting them within the ranch community. Completing general management duties which will include guest check ins and check outs, ranch orientation tours, guest comment sheets, relaying guest requests and problems to the appropriate person(s), telephone and reservations, town errands, and hosting. Routine maintenance and cleaning. Basic office tasks such as filing and keeping office clean and organized, computer work. Handle cash + credit card payments (Moneris), Maintenance of ranch merchandise stocking, inventory, keeping organized and clean. POS System. Offers direction to staff Preparing work schedules and checking on quality of work Keeping an inventory of supplies and supervising their use and storage Overseeing laundry Must be a self starter with strong sense of responsibility and willingness to take the necessary effort to maintain the highest quality standards Liases closely with the offsite head office and is the conduit for company goals
Wrangler (x3) POSITIONS HAVE BEEN FILLED FOR 2008 Duties include the day-to-day care of the horses and tack, grooming, saddling, bridling, cleaning stalls and barn area, leading guest rides, providing constructive and engaging instructions to guests in accordance with our riding program, feeding, basic health care of animals. He/she must learn the lead trail rides, instruct guests according to the Wrangler guidelines of horseback riding and maintain leadership of horses and guests at the corral and on the trail. Must be a conversant trail guide willing to learn the Elkin Creek policies and procedures and able to instruct guests according to the ranch program. Excellent people skills are a non-negotiable for this role.
Housekeeper (x2) Keeping our beautiful ranch clean and well maintained is as important as any other single aspect of our operation. Our house-keeping staff is responsible to upkeep our main lodge inclusive of the laundry room, the guest cabins, sauna house and outside areas. Main duties are: changing towels, making & changing beds, cleaning bathrooms, taking out trash, vacuuming, washing windows, dusting, and various other cleaning related activities. You will also help in the kitchen or lounge if required during high occupancy periods.
Chef (x1) POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED FOR 2008 Food is much more than a biological necessity. In the right hands, it's an art form meant to be savored. This position is responsible for Directing breakfast, lunch, appetizers, dinner and snacks as well as BBQs and cookouts. Supervision of all kitchen operations. This includes, but is not limited to, inventories, ordering, supervising staff, keeping the kitchen clean and sanitary in accordance with health code standards. Reviewing of profiles for upcoming guests Efficient and creative use of resources. Monitor food inventory in cooler, freezers, and dry storage to minimize food waste. Adhere to all recycling programs set by the ranch Kitchen, coolers and dining areas are maintained in a clean, sterile and orderly manner Open kitchen concept requires friendly guest relations. Must have a neat and tidy appearance. Experience and/or appropriate degrees/certificates required. He/she must have a positive attitude, be pleasant to guests, able to get along well with other people and treat others with respect and consideration.
Sous-Chef (x1) The Elkin Creek Sous-Chef will support the chef in whatever manner is felt appropriate to the role. The Sous-Chef must be a team player who can work well with the chef and the other staff. He/she must be open to input regarding preparation of dishes working together to create the best food products possible. He/she must have a positive attitude, be pleasant to guests, able to get along with other people and treat others with respect and consideration. He/she needs to be able to lift 50 pounds. He/she needs to use good hygienic practices working hard to meet or exceed health codes and to maintain a clean and orderly work environment. He/she needs to be a skilled cook able to bake homemade bread and pastries, prepare high quality food in a timely manner, and execute effective and attractive presentation of the food.
Kitchen Help (x1) Keeping the kitchen clean and sanitary, kitchen garbage removal and cleaning the kitchen floor. The kitchen assistant is also responsible for the washing and storage of pots, pans, china, flatware and all kitchen utensils. May be required to assist with housekeeping and groundskeeping if necessary.
Kids Program Co-ordinator (x1) The position is responsible for the development and running of our daily kids program. Candidates must absolutely love children and will show them how to have fun outdoors. From hikes, to crafts, and time at the lake your job is to keep the kids active and entertained; with a degree of variety, safety and responsibility shown at all times...but most of all it should be loads of fun. You may be required to assist with housekeeping and groundskeeping if necessary. Has active knowledge and experience working with children Is physically fit Has outdoor activity experience Has strong customer service skills First Aid & CPR.
Outdoor Adventure and Fishing Guide (x1) The position is responsible for teaching all aspects of fishing to our guests including basic spin/cast fishing for younger children and fly fishing, as well as taking guests for hikes, kayaking, canoeing, sailing or playing with the kids. Our Outdoor Adventure Guide also takes care of all fishing and lake side equipment as well as our sauna house and hot tub. We are looking for someone who: Has knowledge and experience of sport and recreation management, youth leadership and physical activity. Is physically fit Has guiding & outdoor activity experience Has strong customer service skills First Aid & CPR. - Wilderness First Aid an asset
Lakeside Activities Co-ordinator (x1) The position is responsible for the ongoing administration and maintenance of our lakeside program. We are looking for someone with a passion for watersports, that strives to ensure our lake is both a safe and fun place to be! May be required to assist with housekeeping and groundskeeping if necessary. We are looking for someone who: Has knowledge and experience of watersports Is physically fit Has outdoor activity experience Has strong customer service skills First Aid & CPR. - Wilderness First Aid and lifeguarding certification an asset Experience with horses and/or housekeeping (to help cover days off) is considered an asset
Desired assets for all positions: Valid driver's license preferrably with experience in driving standard vehicles German or French language knowledge First Aid Certificate Serving It Right Certificate A criminal record check will be mandatory
